VERSE OF THE DAY.
Psalm 6421st Century King James Version (KJ21)
64 Hear my voice, O God, in my prayer; preserve my life from fear of the enemy.
2 Hide me from the secret counsel of the wicked, from the insurrection of the workers of iniquity,
3 who whet their tongue like a sword and bend their bows to shoot their arrows, even bitter words,
4 that they may shoot in secret at the perfect; suddenly do they shoot at him and fear not.
5 They encourage each other in an evil purpose; they commune in laying snares privily; they say, “Who shall see them?”
6 They search out iniquities, they conduct a diligent search; both the inward thought of every one of them, and the heart, is deep.
7 But God shall shoot at them with an arrow; suddenly shall they be wounded.
8 So shall they make their own tongue to fall upon themselves; all that see them shall flee away.
9 And all men shall fear and shall declare the work of God, for they shall wisely consider His doing.
10 The righteous shall be glad in the Lord and shall trust in Him, and all the upright in heart shall glory.
A short commentary on the ‘Verse of the Day’.
This chapter is a very large exposition of two words, the blessing and the curse. They are real things and have real effects. The blessings are here put before the curses. God is slow to anger, but swift to show mercy. It is his delight to bless. It is better that we should be drawn to what is good by a child-like hope of God’s favour, than that we be frightened to it by a slavish fear of his wrath. The blessing is promised, upon condition that they diligently hearken to the voice of God. Let them keep up religion, the form and power of it, in their families and nation, then the providence of God would prosper all their outward concerns.
THE LORD’S PRAYER.
Our Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, On earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.
The Lord bless you and keep you;
The Lord make His face shine upon you,
And be gracious unto you;
The Lord lift up His countenance upon you,
And give you peace.
May God bless you all and ‘The Church of the Christian Nation’, Amen.
